Fallout 76 Adds Fishing Feature in Latest Test Server Update

Bethesda has rolled out a new update to the Fallout 76 Public Test Server, introducing a major new gameplay feature: fishing. For the first time, players will be able to catch fish and cook meals using their catch.

The update brings with it a brand-new area called Fisherman’s Rest, a mysterious region filled with unique characters and secrets. Among them is Captain Raymond Clark—better known as the Fisherman—who guides players through their fishing journey. Alongside him is his unusual companion, Linda-Lee, a giant hermit crab that has made an old fishing boat her home.

To begin fishing, players can start the Casting Off quest line, which can be triggered either from a sign in front of Vault 76 or via a signal received in the Mire region. Completing the initial quests rewards players with their first fishing rod. Interestingly, the rod won’t appear in the inventory—instead, a “Fishing” option will show up when near a suitable body of water. However, rods can be customized and upgraded at a weapons workbench.

You can start the Casting Off quest line from the sign in front of Vault 76 or from the signal we receive in the Mire region.

Fishing in Fallout 76 isn’t just about casting a line. Success depends on factors like weather conditions and the type of bait used. Once you catch your first fish, it unlocks a range of potential recipes. These meals aren’t just for survival either—feeding cooked fish to Linda-Lee will earn players a random legendary item as a reward.

In addition to the fishing system, the patch also includes several updates to game balance, perk functionality, and the limb damage system. Players interested in exploring all the new features can access the Public Test Server via Steam.
