Samsung’s QLED TV series are very extensive and range from the absolute top to the mid-range. Specifications often differ only in some strategic areas. Samsung’s new Q67T lineup is an affordable entry-level QLED 4K TV.
4K TVs of the Q67T series will be produced in three standard sizes of diagonals from 109 cm to 147 cm. The main innovation used in the Q67T TV is LED backlighting with dual temperature – warm and cold. For the rest, the continuity with respect to the previous Q67R series is preserved. In the proposed review of Samsung QE50Q67TAUXRU, using the example of a TV with an average screen size, we will take a closer look at the functionality and specification of the Q67T series from Samsung.
Design
The Q67T TV series has a traditional design. It has thin (0.9 cm) bezels on the sides and top. The bottom is slightly wider. Overall sleek and minimalist aesthetics are complemented by wide-spaced insert legs. Clips are provided for cable management. Unlike the previous series Samsung Q67R, the body and frames of the novelty are made in black. The maximum thickness of a 50 ” model does not exceed 6 cm.
In reality, it looks even thinner due to the curved back. With this size, the TV will inevitably vibrate if touched. But the buildup is tolerable. With the VESA mount, the TV can be easily attached to the wall. You just need to take into account that some of the connectors look back. Access to them can be difficult if the distance is too close to the wall.
Image quality
Obviously, the Q67T uses a VA panel with quantum dot technology. This provides a decent contrast ratio (up to 7000: 1) and deep blacks, which cannot be said for IPS screens . Samsung patented Dual LED backlighting in 2020. Depending on the content shown on the screen, the backlight is either warmer (more yellow) or cold (bluer). In this way, you can achieve a more natural picture.
The depth of the black color is enough so that in a dark room it does not turn gray on the screen. But there is no local dimming function . And in bright scenes in dark rooms, black can sometimes look like gray. It should be noted, though, that the Q67T has good gray uniformity and excellent black uniformity. So there is practically no mud screen effect.
Quantum HDR technology enhances picture detail when displaying relevant content. As has become traditional, Samsung does not support Dolby Vision – only HDR10 + and HLG. The peak brightness of the Q67T is about the same in SDR mode as in HDR. Its value exceeds 400 nits. Still, this level is not enough to fully display the smallest bright reflections on the screen.
As with most VA panels, the viewing angles are poor. When viewed from the side, black levels rise rapidly and the image appears washed out. IPS TVs like the Sony XH8005 have much better viewing angles. The color rendition of the new Samsung is impressive. After calibration, color accuracy is further improved. The white point is almost perfect. Gamma follows the curve well, so most scenes are displayed with the correct brightness.
Motion processing
The Samsung Quantum Processor Lite is a stripped-down version of the Quantum Processor 4K used in the older series. This processor provides excellent results for all typical tasks. The input delay (input-lag) for all resolutions in the “Game” mode is about 10 ms. The response time does not exceed 18 ms. But the same Samsung TU8000 has the best response time.
The crispness of movement meets the expectations in this category. In fast moving images, a minimum of detail is lost, and the moving objects themselves have a slightly blurry outline. For the best detail and smooth images, it’s best to set Auto Motion Plus to Auto. This TV uses PWM to dim the backlight and has a very high frequency so the flicker shouldn’t be noticeable to most people.
Smart TV
As mentioned, the Q67T runs on Tizen 5.5. Compared to the Q67R, the OS functionality is slightly curtailed, the interface has become simpler, and the background is dark. There are advertisements on the home page and in the app store and cannot be turned off. The Samsung store has a large number of apps, and most of them work flawlessly. The built-in media player can play most common audio and video formats from a USB stick.
The Multi View option is interesting. The TV screen is divided between the displayed TV program and the picture broadcast from the smartphone. SmartThings app is also supported. You can receive notifications from any devices connected to the “smart home” system and control them. The remote control for the Q67T remains relatively unchanged compared to the Q67R. Option with dedicated buttons for streaming services is possible.
Sound
The Q67T audio system is represented by two 10-watt downward-firing speakers. For speech accompaniment of films, for TV programs, this is quite enough. The volume is decent, although the level of distortion increases at a high level. But for sound effects, for a captivating immersion in the “virtual” reality of a film, the audio path is rather weak.
Without bass, the sound is flat, not saturated, not “juicy”. To improve the sound situation, you can consider a soundbar or a separate home theater system. Samsung has a fair amount of soundbar models. Take the HW-Q800T, for example . There are already overhead speakers supporting Dolby Atmos and a subwoofer.
Connections
In this section, a little downshifting in relation to the previous model. The number of HDMI connectors has been reduced to 3. There are still two USB ports. Composite video input has reappeared. You can connect to the Internet via a wire through the LAN connector. Dual band WiFi5 can be used. Sound is output from the optical output or HDMI-ARC Audio Return Channel.
Conclusion
The Samsung Q67T is a good TV for a wide variety of uses. It is great for viewing in dark environments due to its outstanding contrast and black uniformity. But it also fits well in a brightly lit room.
Unfortunately, its peak brightness doesn’t allow it to get a great HDR viewing experience, and its viewing angles aren’t ideal for large rooms. At the same time, gamers should be satisfied with its low input lag. The only pity is that no variable refresh rate technology is supported. In general, if there is a desire to try QLED, this model is a good start.
